The youthful age is a period of trial and error. It is a phase of endless exploration, experimentation and enquiries. While some are being driven to Pentecostalism by the wave of the time, due to old method of teaching the faith; the Church must not relent in repeating the fact that the Catholic faith must be valued. On this, the catechetical model of Osogbo Diocese has been presented elaborately which to a large extent is meeting with the needs of today’s youths in communicating the faith in its simplest form. At the end, it was suggested that other Dioceses should adopt these methods to keep the youths in the Catholic Church forever.

Gagne’s Behaviorist and Bruner’s Discovery Learning theories provided the framework, while the pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental design using 3x2x2 factorial matrix was adopted. Two Local Government Areas (LGAs) were randomly selected within Kaduna city. Three each of private and public schools were purposively selected from the LGAs on co-educational basis and geographical locations Schools were randomly assigned to IMIS (134), PSS (134) and control (132) groups. Treatment lasted 12 weeks. Instrumentation are Students Attitude to Mathematics Questionnaire (r = 0.79) and instructional guides. Data were analysed using Analysis of covariance and Bonferroni post-hoc test at 0.05 level of significance. Participants’ age was 12.60 ± 2.30 years and 59.0% were female. There was a significant main effect of treatment on students’ attitude to mathematics (F (2,385) =65.45; partial ƞ2=0.25). The participants’ attitude mean score are IMIS (105.39), PSS (100.35) and control (97.51). School type had significant main effects on students attitude to mathematics (F(1,385)=15.73; partial ƞ2=0.04) from private schools. Treatment and school type had significant interaction effect on students’ attitude to mathematics (F(2,385)=5.9; partial ƞ2=0.03) from private school in IMIS group. Interactive e-note and problem-solving instructional strategies enhanced students’ attitude to mathematics in Kaduna, Nigeria so should be adopted in public secondary junior schools.

Abstract
The need to reduce illiteracy among the citizen to the barest level by 2015 as reflected in one of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) cardinal areas informed the introduction of Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme in Nigeria. This paper investigated assessment of UBE on the development of education in Oyo State. The population for the study comprised of all primary school teachers in Oyo State. One hundred and fifty respondents represented the sample for the study. Two research questions were raised to guide the study. The instrument tagged ‘‘Teachers Questionnaire on Universal Basic Education’’ (TQUBE) was used to gather relevant data for the study. The instrument (TQUBE) was subjected to thorough scrutiny by experts in measurement and evaluation to establish the face validity while pilot study was carried out in one of the schools outside the sampled primary schools for two weeks to find out its reliability. The data collected was analyzed using simple percentage. The findings revealed that both infrastructural facilities and funding provision were inadequate for effective UBE implementation in Oyo State. The paper concludes that both infrastructural facilities and funding play significant roles in achieving the attainment of UBE programme. Recommendations made include that adequate provision of infrastructural facilities as spelt out in the Policy implementation of UBE should be given priority by the Federal, States and Local Government in Nigeria. Also, government at all levels should ensure that fund meant for UBE is released to time and judiciously utilized for the attainment of the programme set goals.
